The Anatomy Of A COA.
Every Certificate of Analysis is built from the same handful of fields. Once you know what each one is telling you, a COA takes about ten seconds to check against the product in front of you.
Compound Name
Confirm it matches the product page exactly — including salt form or sequence notation where relevant.
Batch / Lot Number
This is the single most important field. It should match a number printed on the vial or its packaging — that's what makes a COA specific instead of generic.
Test Date
Tells you how recently the batch was analyzed relative to when it was manufactured or shipped.
Purity Result
Usually expressed as a percentage from HPLC analysis. It reflects the proportion of the target compound relative to detected impurities — not a claim about effect or use.
Testing Method
Most research peptide COAs cite HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) for purity and may cite Mass Spectrometry (MS) for identity confirmation.
Issuing Lab
Look for a named third-party lab, not just an internal document — independence is what gives a COA credibility.
